After injuring himself late in the victory over the Buccaneers in Week 8, A.J. Green claimed he just jammed his toe and should be fine.
But then Green showed up two days later in a walking boot for precautionary purposes and his foot swelled later in the week. Now he might be anything but fine as he heads to Green Bay this week to meet with foot specialist, Dr. Robert Anderson.
There are a range of possible outcomes for the Bengals number one wide receiver and one of the best in the NFL. Green may find himself day-to-day or week-to-week. He could also require surgery that would end his season.
The Bengals sit at 5-3 after their bye, firmly in playoff contention and only a half game behind the Steelers and in excellent position for a wildcard. The loss of Green would be a devastating blow to their playoff hopes.
If Green misses time, the Bengals will need to rely on the continued ascension of Tyler Boyd and will need to get something from former first rounder, John Ross, who’s struggled with his own injury problems. Cincinnati could also choose to lean more heavily Joe Mixon and Gio Bernard.
The Bengals have been able to weather the loss of Tyler Eifert. The loss of A.J.Green for any length of time could be fatal to Who Dey’s 2018 hopes.
