Le’Veon Bell tweeted “Fairwell (sic) Miami” and a hand-waving emoji, which sent Twitter into a tizzy Monday afternoon.
Fairwell Miami 👋🏾
— Le'Veon Bell (@LeVeonBell) November 5, 2018
The last time Bell tweeted something himself was back on October 14th and, of course, that made headlines also. Bell tweeted, “damn james” and a muscle emoji reacting to watching James Conner running over defenders.
Bell obviously loves the attention he creates when he tweets. It’s actually pretty remarkable he doesn’t tweet more often. It was a little surprising he chose to tweet nothing after the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, a tragic event that the Steelers were very sensitive to and visible around it afterwards.
This particular tweet from Bell was cryptic in nature, which builds drama. Everyone wants to know where Bell is headed now that he’s leaving Miami. Bell could’ve just as easily tweeted “Hello, Pittsburgh” but that would be much less cryptic and less dramatic.
Mike Tomlin took a shot at Bell on Sunday. “We need volunteers, not hostages.” His teammates are tired of talking about him and seem to be just fine if Bell never “volunteers” to return to Pittsburgh.
The Steelers RB has until next Tuesday November 13th to sign his tender and return to the Steelers or forego playing this season. Some thought that impossible a few months ago, but now it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Bell didn’t show up and sat out the entire 2018 season.
Pittsburgh could just use the transition tag on Bell next season if he doesn’t report and start this whole process over for 2019. The Steelers could also choose to cut him loose. Whatever they decide to do, we’ll finally have more of an answer in 8 days.
“Bell knows what he’s doing” is a very difficult position to defend in light of the way he’s handled his situation with the Steelers, but he does know how social media works. There’s a message he’s trying to communicate, but I’m not sure even the best minds at the NSA could crack Bell’s code.
